Get to Know Lily Ahonen…
Lily Ahonen has a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology and made a career change in 2006 into the field of Nursing. She has been a Nurse for medically fragile children for over a decade. She loves to travel and has been to over 40 countries. Lily enjoys activities like running with bulls, car racing, rappelling down buildings for charity, and skydiving. Lily is Ms. Galaxy Calgary 2020/2021, Miss Angel Queen 2020, and was the 2019 National Canadian Ms. Calgary Titleholder.
Lily Ahonen is the Country Director for Canada for the International Youth Society and for the International Foundation of Women. She is an Ambassador for Gems for Gems, an organization that assists survivors of domestic violence. She has volunteered with many other organizations such as Love with Humanity Association, Calgary Immigrant Support Society, Engineers Without Borders, Between Friends Club, One Woman, Kinettes, and more. She is a Sustainer Member of the Junior League of Calgary and Manager of Programs with Apar Initiative, an organization that encourages young women to become involved in STEM fields.
Lily has been working as a Youth Mentor for over 20 years and has been speaking at online global summits on the topic of “Youth as Agents of Change”. She attended the “Women and Girls in the Middle East Region” summit in Sharjah, UAE in 2016. In 2018, she attended a leadership program in Kenya, where she also toured local schools, clinics, and farms. She has a daughter who is also extensively involved in community service and volunteerism.
She is the recipient of the Life-Changing Humanitarian Award from the True Beauty Foundation in 2019. She is a Living Organ donor, having donated her kidney to a childhood friend in August 2019, and an advocate for organ donation.
